Piston lathes

Among the many machinings of automotive pieces, the technological excellence is given to skirt oval profiling and complex turning: it’s a 4 axes controlled operation at high speed and with micrometric tolerances requiring high productivity.
Since the start of its activity,DAMUS has experienced the machines evolution from early lathes with a master cam and mechanical copying arm up to recent solutions such as piezo-electric system, linear motor application, magnetic wave drive. Our present standard application is done with an oscillating device (our patent) guided by a high frequency servovalve (response up to 300 Hz).
On such lathe (model TCE 2350) there are the most advanced technological auxiliary equipments: electrospindle with in-built encoder, optical liners for axes positioning control, non-contact space used transducers for tool positioning control. These features allow to reach oscillations higher than 3.500 rpm with a 1,5 mm stroke and tool precision on dynamic positioning of +/- 0,5 microns
Operator interface has been designed according to our customers’ specifications and is based on our software which generates friendly usable charts for sinusoidal formulas divided in 2 parts: one for ovality sections and one for “bombed” profiles. Piston configuration ( as per any other complex piece ) is determined by an overlapping of “bombed”lines (X and Z axes interpolation) and non round forms (O and C axes syncronization): in our setting the 2 different charts contain relative values with the possibility of programming 100 points on longitudinal sections (bombed line) and 1° on horizontal sections (ovality form).
